Grotesque Bliss - 'Grotesque Bliss' CD
Jewel case CD edition
Hailing from Australia’s extreme metal underground, GROTESQUE BLISS is a doom-death metal trio featuring vocalist/bassist Bjorn, known for his work with TEMPLE NIGHTSIDE and Grave Upheaval; guitarist Chris Burton, whose legacy spans the '90s Australian metal scene with acts like Paramæcium, Cryptal Darkness, and The Eternal; and seasoned drummer Matthew Southcombe of Internecine Excoriation. After two intense rehearsals, GROTESQUE BLISS released a self-titled demo in 2024. That recording now sees international release in an expanded edition, culminating in a powerful cover of My Dying Bride’s classic "I Am the Bloody Earth." Fully realized as a debut full-length, the album stands as a harrowing example of atmospheric yet brutal doom-death metal, rooted in bleakness, minimalism, and ritualistic heaviness.
Fans of Grave Upheaval’s suffocating atmospheres, TEMPLE NIGHTSIDE’s cavernous production, and Paramæcium’s cult doom-death legacy will find familiar echoes here. But GROTESQUE BLISS carve their own path with a primitive lurch, caveman-like execution, and serpentine songwriting that avoids modern excess. Occasional mid-tempo stomps emerge, only to be dragged back into a dirge of crushing slowness. Ethereal lead guitars and agonized vocal howls enhance the gloom, while guttural growls anchor the listener deep within the abyss.
