This is the original, rarely heard version of 'Dusk... And Her Embrace' known as 'The Original Sin'. Once long-buried, this original 1995 recording of Cradle Of Filth’s second album was shelved due to a legal dispute. Capturing a pivotal moment in British black metal history, this version was recorded at Magnum's Zella Studios in Birmingham, with a near-identical lineup to 'The Principle of Evil Made Flesh', save for Jon Kennedy replacing Robin Graves on bass. Kennedy would later go on to front Hecate Enthroned on vocals.
This recording was shelved indefinitely after Cradle entered a protracted legal battle with their former label, Cacophonous Records. As tensions rose and resolution seemed unlikely, brothers Paul and Benjamin Ryan, along with guitarist Paul Allender, left the band to form The Blood Divine alongside ex-Anathema vocalist Darren White — who had famously guested on 'A Dream of Wolves in the Snow.' With new recruits Stuart Anstis and Damien Gregori, Cradle recorded the 'Vempire' EP in 1996, resolving the dispute and ultimately winning the right to re-record Dusk... for official release through Music for Nations. That version featured partially reused elements from the original session — including Cronos’ spoken word segments and the original drum tracks — but the rest was reworked with a new lineup. Only Malice Through the Looking Glass was written entirely by the revamped lineup.
In 2016, at long last, Dani Filth and former manager Frater Nihil unearthed and remastered the original Dusk... sessions with acclaimed producer Scott Atkins (Amon Amarth, Benediction, Vader). The result: 'Dusk... And Her Embrace – The Original Sin' is presented raw, atmospheric, and exactly as it was first envisioned in 1995.
